Are you beginning to feel the subtle effects of the recent changes in the air? Last weekend, we welcomed in the Chinese New Year of the Fire Rooster; a transformative and visionary energy, encouraging us to burn through obstacles, to purge and release what is no longer needed, and to be born anew, more fearless and focused than ever before. Then, just a few days ago, we greeted the festival of Imbolc, a mid-winter celebration of fire, purification and fertility; observing the first light of spring and the waning of winter. Water, being the element associated with winter, we delved into a space of tranquility, flow, adaptability and the conserving of energy. The mood was restorative, quiet and unadorned. Now, moving into spring, the energy is dynamic; it's youthful, rousing, fire energy. It's the essence of awakening, passion and excitement. So with the heat ramping up in our external world in more ways than one, it seems like a good time to check in and ask ourselves, how am I tending to my own inner flame?
When I asked myself this question, immediately the word sensuality came to mind. As one of my core desired feelings (see The Desire Map), sensuality, to me is all about freedom, flow, pleasure, honouring the physical expression and fulfilling the senses. Sensuality is desire and desire is an appetite for life, it's the energy of creation. It is deeply rooted in gratitude and appreciation for life and for the present moment. It is also hugely concerned with personal responsibility – it's not about another, it's not patiently waiting for your partner or for Valentine's Day, it's about you owning yourself and your bliss.
There are a multitude of ways to stoke your inner fire and embrace sensuality as a daily practice. Here are some of the things on my sensual list:
- Dance and movement
- Fresh coffee and jasmine incense
- Writing love letters
- Naked yoga
- Whispering sweet nothings to my plants
- Red wine and low lighting
- Listening to J Cole in the bath
- Raw chocolate dipped in cashew nut butter
- Yoni eggs and self-massage
- Walking barefoot on damp grass
- Playing my steel pan
- Writing poetry in bed
- Burning candles and white sage
- Buying myself flowers
So, I urge you to set some time aside to come up with your own list of sensual practices and make self-care a priority.
Universally, we are being called to embrace and reclaim our Feminine power and to bring the cosmic energy back into balance. This means less control, resistance, action, aggression and logic, and more flow, flexibility, creativity, nurture, intuition, and sensitivity.
The mood is sensual and the future is Divinely Feminine.
